- Sylvia Beach wrote James Joyce about Bardeleben on November 29, 1926: "He is a nice fellow and seems to look like a poet. He trembles at the very mention of your books. [...] He has made several visits to Paris and my shop in the last few years with the hope of seeing you. I loaned him the reviews containing fragments of your new book."
